The Magruder Gets a Makeover!
Yesterday we checked in with Captain Andy about the scheduled maintenance he and his crew have been working on in the dry dock. As we arrived all of the crewmembers had paint rollers in hand and were working on one of the layers of bottom paint. Captain Andy explained that they alternate paint colors they are able to keep track of what coat they are on.

The first coat was gray, the white you see is the second coat and the gray you see is the third coat. The final coat will be black. The side of the vessel will, of course, be painted “Magruder Blue” which I’m told is what the guys at the local paint shop also now call that shade of blue.

Scheduled sand blasting of the hull is nearly complete and has revealed a few areas in need of repair. Steve the Welder is hard at work repairing some of the small patches of weakened rail on the Starboard side and there is a larger patch that will be repaired on the port side of the ship. There is a small amount of work to be done to the engine and the Starboard rudder post is being rebuilt as it has rusted out.

In addition to the work on the hull the crew has replaced the framing for the awning on the back deck and the canvas will be replaced once all other work is complete. The crews quarters are also getting a much needed overhaul with new bunks and closets.

Andy says that all of the work is coming along and being completed at a good pace. While there are not too many projects on the list each one is quite time consuming. That being said all work is on track to be completed on schedule. Great work guys, you will be out treasure hunting again in no time!
