The
Capt. Dan Porter of Keith Webb’s Blue Water Ventures Key West uses his cell
phone to photograph a reliquary pendant found Monday afternoon at the wreck site
of the Santa Margarita, the sister ship of the Atocha. Both ships were lost in a
hurricane in 1622. The pendant is about 1½ inches tall and has a clear window
allowing the display of small religious artifacts. Ultra-thin gold foil with
as-yet-unidentified markings remain inside the tiny compartment. Also found
Monday were two musketlike rifles that were completely covered with coral.
