The Huntress Mel Fishers Treasures

The Huntress, Captain Shawn Redding

Shawn Redding, Mel Fishers Treasures

As a farm boy growing up in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina, Shawn never imagined becoming a treasure hunter and living on an island. After finishing his BS in Engineering and MA in Administration, Shawn formed a partnership with a friend and started a successful electrical contracting company. He then took a position as a professor of Electrical Engineering at a Wilkes Community College in NC. During his tenure at the college, he came to Key West on a trip that would change his life. He wandered into the museum and met Mel Fisher. After seeing the treasure and hearing Mel’s treasure hunting stories, he became an investor. Each year, as soon as the spring semester at the college would end, Shawn would come back to Key West and work on the treasure boats. In 2007, Shawn retired from teaching and made a permanent move to Key West. He is now the Captain of The Huntress and helps maintain the treasure boats.
